Iran's military claims to have hit a US naval base in Manama, as the country executed operations throughout the Middle East in retaliation for a "massive" and ongoing assault targeting the nation by the US and Israel.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity near the main base of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The full scale of any destruction is unclear and the US has not commented.

Regional Interceptions

Elsewhere across the region, the United Arab Emirates, Qatar and Kuwait - each hosting US military bases - said they have engaged and destroyed missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry announced it had intercepted a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the Al Udeid Air Base, the largest American base in the region.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was striking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the attack on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far targeted locations linked to the Iranian leadership, with US President Donald Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the regime.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces stated it had detected an incoming Iranian missile barrage.

The Ministry of Defence of the UAE announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted missile fragments fell on a populated district in Abu Dhabi, resulting in some material damage and fatalities.

The United States Air Force operates from the Al Dhafra base, south of the Emirati capital, along with the Emirati Air Force.
