Around 50 automobiles have been smeared with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, as reported by law enforcement.
Vehicles, walls and postboxes were defaced, occasionally with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Officers say they were contacted during the night on Wednesday night, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy neighborhood of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued substance.
The fluid had been drawn in the pattern of a swastika, they reported.
Law enforcement then discovered many other vandalized automobiles and building exteriors in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state early analysis suggest the substance was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they commented.
City officials stated they were attempting "to unravel the case" and have requested to the residents for details.
A senior official said the attack left him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This act affects the core of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the extremist attack half a decade ago," he stated on a platform, recalling the murder of nine victims by a assailant targeting individuals of migrant background in February 2020.
